Women Participation in Workforce
– An article by our Alumni, Simmy Garg, PGDM July 2015 Batch
As per a latest study, the female labor participation in India is 24.8 Per cent which has reduced from the original share of 34 per cent in 2006. The study also revealed that raising women participation in the labor force to the same level as men can boost India’s GDP by 27 per cent.
With this aim, most of us have recently seen our organization promoting “Diversity & Inclusion”
So, what does “Diversity” in workplace mean? Diversity in the workplace refers to an organization that intentionally employs a workforce comprised of individuals of varying gender, religion, race, age, ethnicity, sexual orientation, education, and other attributes.
This has helped in breaking the gender stereotypes and as a result it will help many women reach leadership roles.
However, we should acknowledge that we as women must also skill ourselves with the desired technical qualifications and some experiential learning to get the right job.
You just need to follow five simple steps (5Cs) to excel in your career and never look back.
- Choose your career – It is very important to know what you want to be in long term so that every step you take brings you closer to your dream and help you choose your path.
- Connect – Make sure that you are between people who motivate you, helps you achieve your dreams & bring out the best in you.
- Collaborate – Learn this, you cannot do everything alone. Try collaborating with people of same interest and innovate something together.
- Be Consistent – Be consistent in what you do. Consistency brings more predictability and makes you a reliable resource.
- Celebrate – Celebrate each of your little achievements. You should not be dependent on others to praise you. Praising ourselves brings confidence in you and helps you keep self – motivated.
In my career, IMT has played a very important role. After working for almost 5 years, I realized that most of the roles which I wanted for myself in the long term demanded an MBA qualification. As a working professional and sole bread earner for my family, it was not possible for me to join a regular MBA programme or spend too much, so here stepped in IMT CDL and I joined the distance PGDM program which I could afford and pursue without leaving my Job. I joined IMT PDGM program in July 2015, it gave wings to my career and I am currently working with the India’s leading E-commerce organization.
Believe me Ladies! Sky is the limit…Believe in yourself.
